A Group Effort

Life is not lived in a vacuum, nor does jewelry appear spontaneously from my thoughts and drawings. These articles pass through many hands, each person imparting some of their life´s energy into the piece as part of the process of creation. I discovered the Hindu culture of the island of Bali in my early travels, and subsequently began a partnership between the artisans and people of the island and myself that has lasted for all these years. Only through the skills of the smiths do metal, fire, and stone coalesce into these objects we offer.

I´d have to say that many of the designs are created by an almost psychic connection between myself, my assistants, wax carvers, sample-makers, goldsmiths, and the stone department. To an outside observer, most of my shorthand sketches and drawings would be gibberish. Yet, after long years of working together, there is an implicit shared understanding with my partners of what I am seeking. I never tire of seeing that final revision when a piece finally passes muster.
